Larimar Specimen Atlas

The Specimen Atlas documents individual objects rather than idealized categories. Its purpose is to make comparison possible and preserve information that would otherwise disappear when a rough piece is cut, sold or separated into several finished objects.

An atlas record is not automatically a product listing. Sold, retained, research and reference specimens can remain visible when publication rights and security allow.

Every published specimen should include:

• Unique specimen number
• Record status
• Exact photographs with scale
• Dry viewing condition
• Weight
• Dimensions
• Form: rough, slab, preform, polished, jewellery or specimen
• Dominant color description
• Pattern description
• Translucency
• Visible matrix and associated minerals
• Structural condition
• Treatment, repair or stabilization disclosure
• Provenance status
• Acquisition or extraction date where known
• Photographer and date
• Last review date

Use a visible status:

• Confirmed by laboratory analysis
• Confirmed by documented provenance and expert examination
• Preliminary field identification
• Associated mineral not yet confirmed

Do not label an unusual inclusion from color alone.

Use:

• Neutral background
• Color reference
• Scale
• Controlled white balance
• Front, back and side views
• Close-ups of notable features
• Dry images as the primary reference
• Wet images only when clearly labelled

Retain original files and processing history. Do not remove fractures, pits or matrix during editing.

When a rough specimen is cut, preserve the parent record and link every documented slab or finished object. Record weights before and after processing where practical.

This creates a visual map of the material and provides unusually valuable evidence about internal continuity, yield and pattern change.

No specimen matches the selected combination. Broaden the filters; nature may simply have declined that exact spreadsheet request.
