Larimar Pattern Atlas
Larimar pattern names help people compare visual structures, but the vocabulary is inconsistent. Some terms describe genuine mineral growth, some describe appearance, and some are commercial names created by individual sellers.
The Pattern Atlas does not turn every nickname into geology. It shows verified examples, defines how Larimar Miner uses each term and records overlap between categories.
Every pattern entry should include
- Preferred name
- German equivalent
- Category: structural, visual, inclusion-related or trade descriptor
- Definition
- Diagnostic and non-diagnostic features
- Similar terms
- Known variations
- At least three documented specimen examples
- Viewing orientation
- Whether the term can be used as a quality grade
- Source or first documented use where known
- Last editorial review
Formal structure versus trade language
Examples of formal or descriptive concepts include:
- Radial fibrous growth
- Spherulitic structure
- Vein filling
- Matrix contact
- Fracture filling
- Zoning
- Translucent margin
Potential trade descriptors include:
- Sea-wave
- Turtleback
- Fractal
- Ocean
- Flat blue
- Angelic
- Art
Pattern is not identity
A pattern may be characteristic without being exclusive. Dyed, cracked or composite materials can imitate white-on-blue contrast. Pattern should therefore support identification, not replace it.
Pattern is not automatically grade
A rare structure may occur in pale, fractured or poorly polished material. A common structure may be exceptionally beautiful and durable. Record pattern and material quality separately.
